What does containing a battery incident actually mean?

Prevention, detection, containment and response work together. They are not interchangeable.

Containment is one layer in a battery-safety plan. Its purpose is to limit the effects of an incident on the surrounding area.

Consider more than the enclosure

Heat, released gases and fire spread need to be assessed together. The installed system and its operating limits matter as much as its outer shell.

Plan the whole response

Define how a concern is detected, who is alerted and what happens next. Containment does not remove the need for incident procedures or professional review. Avoid improvised sealing or handling of a battery that may already be failing.

PUT IT INTO PRACTICE

Review the battery activity, warning signs and site procedures together. Make sure the team knows who to contact and what to do if a concern is identified.
