Build a safer battery-storage routine

The location, battery condition and inspection routine belong in the same plan.

Start with an inventory: what batteries are present, where they are stored and whether they are new stock, in use or returned. Condition matters as well as quantity.

Keep the routine consistent

Plan controlled storage conditions and regular inspection. Damaged or defective batteries need a separate assessment and should not automatically join normal inventory.

Review access and surroundings

The site layout should allow the responsible team and emergency services to reach the installation. Venting, placement and incident access need to be considered for the actual building.

Assign ownership

An inspection checklist is only useful if someone owns it. Define who records concerns and how the team decides what happens to a battery that no longer meets the routine storage criteria.

PUT IT INTO PRACTICE

Review the battery activity, warning signs and site procedures together. Make sure the team knows who to contact and what to do if a concern is identified.
