Safer charging starts with the everyday routine

The charger, charging location and the person using them all matter.

Illustration of a safe charging routine

Simplified educational illustration of battery-safety principles.

Charging is a regular activity, which makes the routine around it important. Use the charger specified by the device manufacturer and follow the battery and device instructions.

Choose the location deliberately

Keep charging away from exits and combustible materials. A charging place should not become an obstacle in the route people would need during an emergency.

Check the condition first

If the battery or charger is damaged, do not treat charging as a way to test whether it still works. Follow the reporting and assessment process for the device.

Make responsibility clear

Decide who checks the charging arrangement, what happens when something unusual is noticed and how concerns are reported. Staff awareness is part of charging safety, alongside equipment and installation design.

PUT IT INTO PRACTICE

Review the battery activity, warning signs and site procedures together. Make sure the team knows who to contact and what to do if a concern is identified.
